What do you think is the number one reason that people do dishonest things? I know that there are all sorts of reasons why people do dishonest things, but I personally think that the number one reason that they do them is out of desperation. Desperation… ? Think about that word for a second. Have you ever been desperate? If your child was dying and you knew that the only way to get the cure for his sickness was to break into a building and steal it would you do it? Of course you would. I could come up with many more examples like that but I think you get the picture. So that is a worthy desperation act, what about desperation acts that our society deems Unworthy? A young teenage girl thinks that she will never be popular if she doesn’t wear the nicest clothes. To be popular is extremely important to her, she is desperate, and it’s real to her. So she shoplifts. If you asked 100 people if what she did was wrong I would be willing to bet that all 100 of them would say that it was wrong. Maybe they are right and maybe they are wrong but can we judge them?
“Many that live deserve death. Some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them?” Gandolf from The Lord or The Rings.
In John 8:7, after a woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery, Jesus (being tested) is asked what to do with the woman. Jesus responds by saying, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” Why is it that we have 20/20 vision when looking at the sins of others but we are completely blind when looking at our own?
The great Bob Marley sings a song about judgment and my favorite line in his song is “The road of life is rocky, and you may stumble too, so while you talk about me, someone else is judging you.

God loves us and he knows that we are here on this earth to learn. I have learned that every time that I have been too close minded to understand other people’s sins and I judged them, that every single time I was eventually faced with doing the same thing that I was judging that person for.
So, suffice to say, I try really, really hard not to judge people. Not because I’m so good and I’m just a natural “non-judger” but because I’m terrified of having to experience doing the thing that I was judging the person for.
It sucks so bad when you screw up and you know that you screwed up and you’re sorry, really, really sorry but nobody will even begin to try to have compassion or understanding or forgiveness for you. One thing that always brings me peace when I am in a situation such as this is knowing with a surety that the people who are judging me will someday have to go through something similar to what I went through and then they will understand.

Nicely put. If only people spent more time worrying about themselves, rather than those around them, this world would be a better place.
A great example is that of Gayle Ruzicka, the woman that leads the ultra-conservative "Eagle Forum", here in Utah. She spends her entire life running phone trees, trying to sway the votes of Utahns. She has even been known to twist the words of LDS Church leaders, to work in HER favor. Regardless, I found it amusing that a gay friend of mine once told me that he took Gayle's daughter to the Sun Bar (a notorious SLC gay bar, back in the 80's) and got her drunk for the first time. On a more tragic note, Gayle's son overdosed on drugs, and passed away as a result. She is the perfect example of someone who spends every ounce of energy judging those around her, but doesn't seem to spend that much time worrying about her own children. It's a tragedy, in more ways than one...
Wow, I’ve never heard of that LADY, she sounds pretty nast-y. Sheesh, I’m telling ya, I keep hearing the worst stories about it up there, I don’t think that I would be able to deal with it. Being around self righteous/materialistic/judgmental/I’m so much more blessed than you Mormons would really bring out the bad in me. I’m talking about the me that would to do anything I possibly could to shock the jerks, even if that meant lowering my personal standards, not pretty. I have a little bit of experience with those kinds of people, those people being my family. Luckily, people aren’t like that down here in the Land O’ Enchantment, not too much anyway.
